The Partnership Walk & Run Young Professionals Team held an
event
on Tuesday, June 9th at the Ismaili Centre entitled
"The Route to
Hope and Opportunity: How we are making a difference".
Despite the London Underground strike, over 70 people attended this event - so a special thank you to those who came to the event. The overall feedback on the event was very good, with people indicating that the event helped them and their friends and colleagues better understand the importance of addressing global poverty issues, AKF's efforts in this area, and about the upcoming Partnership Walk & Run.
Abyd Karmali, Managing Director and Global Head of Carbon Markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, spoke about the increasing interdependence between developing and the developed countries, and how poverty in developing countries affects those who live in the developed nations.
Caroline Arnold, Co-Director of AKF's Education Programme, spoke about the importance of education in helping alleviate poverty, and in particular, about AKF's highly successful education programme in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Pyarali Jamal, member of the Partnership Walk & Run organizing committee, ended the evening by providing some details about this year's Partnership Walk & Run and the Team Challenge initiative
which has gained a lot of momentum this year. We encourage everyone to reach out to their friends
and colleagues to form corporate or community teams - this is a great way to get others involved in
this worthy cause, and to get positive attention for your organization / group through the various Team Recognition benefits we are offering this year.
This is the first year that we're making presentations in organizations which want to learn more about AKF and the Partnership Walk & Run. The presentations run for about 40 minutes (including a short film) and are made by former and current AKF employees who have considerable experience in dealing with the corporate sector. To learn more about the presentation, please contact Pyarali Jamal at pyarali.jamal@uk.ey.com.
